LDPE Sheet Laying in Industrial Surface Flooring – Importance & Process
In industrial flooring, LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene) sheets play a crucial role in ensuring a strong, durable, and long-lasting floor. Whether you are constructing FM2 floors, VDF floors, or PQC roads, proper LDPE sheet laying is an essential step before concreting.
What is an LDPE Sheet?
LDPE sheets are plastic sheets made from low-density polyethylene material. They act as a moisture barrier between the ground and the concrete surface, preventing dampness, water seepage, and loss of cement slurry into the soil.
Why LDPE Sheet is Important in Flooring:

Moisture Protection: Prevents capillary rise of moisture from the soil.

Improves Floor Strength: Reduces the risk of cracks and weak spots caused by uneven water absorption.

Ensures Smooth Finish: Helps in achieving a uniform surface level for high-quality finishes like FM2 or VDF.

Prevents Cement Slurry Loss: Keeps the mix intact and improves bonding strength.
LDPE Sheet Laying Procedure:

Surface Preparation:

Clean the sub-base thoroughly and make sure it is level and compacted properly.

Laying the LDPE Sheet:

Spread the LDPE sheet (usually 200 microns or thicker) evenly across the entire area.

Overlap adjacent sheets by at least 150 mm (6 inches).

Seal the joints with adhesive tape to avoid leakage or movement during concreting.

Final Checks:

Ensure the sheet is wrinkle-free and fully covers the floor area.

Avoid walking on the sheet with sharp objects or heavy tools.

Proceed with Concrete Work:

Once the sheet is laid properly, reinforcement can be placed, and concrete pouring can begin.
